Clean Lines And Modern Lighting
These project shows how a plain recess can become a really useful and attractive space.
First is a tall alcove fully lined with solid oak wine racking, including individual bottle racks along each side, a central X-cube for mixed storage and adjustable shelving below.
Integrated warm LED lighting above and beneath the oak countertop adds depth and atmosphere. Everything is finished in Danish oil to bring out the grain and provide long term protection. The result is a clean feature that blends storage, symmetry and soft lighting, ideal for modern homes.
The second is a thinner and smaller wine alcove, perfectly tucked away and perfectly useful!
Wine Alcoves with a Brick Arch
Arched alcoves can be some of the most challenging spaces to work with and also the most rewarding.
In these two examples, clients had a traditional curved brick opening and wanted storage that respected the character of the room.
To achieve a flawless fit, the front framing was templated to match the exact curve, the racking was built to sit perfectly behind the arch without gaps and the oak was again finished in Danish oil to contrast with the white brickwork.
Lower shelving was kept open for larger bottles and cases. Because everything is made to measure, the rack sits as though the house was built around it.
A Compact Alcove Bar
Some alcoves are narrow, shallow or oddly proportioned, but even the smallest recess can become highly functional storage.
This example combines:
- Side racking for individual bottles
- A central shelf for spirits and display pieces
- A slanted presentation row for featured wines
- Sliding oak-fronted drawers to store full cases
- LED illumination to enhance warmth and visibility
